John Locke, who you may have heard of in a history class when talking about Democracy and the foundation of American Government, was an English Empiricist philosopher.  Empiricism is a philosophy that, when applied to education, believes that students learn based upon sensory experiences, acquiring knowledge when they are able to do and experience things that they then interpret based upon their five senses.  The teacher is merely a guide that helps his/her students interpret what they have seen, heard, tasted, smelled, and felt.

If you think about it, the DWMA is an institution whose foundation is QUITE Empiricist in nature.  I mean, really, what other school sends adolescents out on life-threatening missions in order to teach them?
